My favorite time of the year, like many, is autumn. There are many reasons why it is my favorite time of the year. For one, the temps drop into the 90's, but just a two hour drive, the temps drop even more, and the landscape rises into a volcanic peak that is just covered in aspens. Just like most alpine regions, Flagstaff had begun it's wonderful display of fall colors. Bright gold aspens stick out against the blue sky as the golden leaves trickle down to the floor from the slight breezes. That's not even the best part. In another week or so, the opposite side of the mountain will unveil it's colorful display, and then another week until the canyons begin their kaleidoscope of change. Unlike autumn it most places, which occurs very quickly at the mercy of the cold weather, Arizona's fall display lasts until late december. Of course, the upper regions where the aspens and maples grow give way first, but then the cottonwoods begin to turn and line the desert rivers and canyons. It's a magical time to be in this state, and this is only the beginning of my autumn adventures. I can't wait to get back to the high country to get my autumn high.
