Salt River Twilight

Description

This is another take on the cliffs of over the lower salt river. I have one more to share from here, and they all are somewhat similar. However, each one is a study in light and the different moods specific light provides over a landscape. This is a stitch of nine vertical images to include the cliffs and moon sneaking between the pink clouds. This was only taken about 20 minutes after my previous image. It is amazing how quickly the light can change out in the desert.

Lower Salt River- Arizona.

First off let me say that this image is stunning example of great landscape photography and the reason I'm even here looking and commenting is that it obviously caught my eye!

Down to brass tacks. The first thing that disrupted my eye was the inclusion of the little rock to the lower right, seems a little out of place as catches your eye as you spin out from the main subject. Was it in the frame due to the constraints of shooting from that particular spot?

The level crop makes it feel slight uncomfortable on my eye, at first I was thinking that the water needs cropping especially as a lot of the gorgeous mountain detail in the reflection is lost in shadow, however the more I look at it the more I think maybe it's fine but simply needs ever so slight dodge just to lift up the reflections.

A lot of motion on the water to the right, maybe just a pinch more exposure to let that smooth over a little more?

The mountains have a stunning orange and red hue that's just gorgeous but the foreshore and the tops are just a little too dark. The far left shore in the trees is very dark indeed. You see the image but your eye is very quickly constrained by just the central 25-30% of the image at the cliff faces, they feel slightly trapped in a lot of surrounding shadow.

Love the sky but there's a bright spot on the upper right that feels slightly at odds with the darker, richer tones in the rest of the image, it's almost an escape route to get out of the image away from the cliff faces.

A stunning, classic landscape image that's been extremely well captured but just feels a little dark in places.
