Three sisters by PeterJCoskun Three sisters by PeterJCoskun
The three sisters rock formation rises above a sea of cacti. This location is incredible, tucked away from development, and the surrounding views are just incredible. Just a few yards away there is just a sea of saguaro cacti. It is quite a spectacle. This is right inside the wilderness boundary and while I was photographing this scene, two large cattle came up behind me scaring me a bit. Being up here all alone was peaceful, but definitely kept me on my toes. Hiking back in the dark alone, I was convinced that I was being stalked by a mountain lion. Luckily I got back to the car unharmed. I'll definitely be returning a few more times to this location this year.

Three sisters- Superstition wilderness, Arizona.

Yes only under the circumstances that the painting is not used for profit and that I retain credit for original image. I also ask that you link me the finished product. Thank you for your interest.

I will let you know if I use anything. You have some good work, beautiful. Who knew the desert could be beautiful? I would most likely mix and match, combining elements, changing things for composition.

I've lived in Arizona all my life, and never have I understood why people think it's pretty or why it would be considered a scenic place to live since it's always just looked...brown to me. Especially when I compare it to forests and bubbling streams and tree canopies and the like. But this...you've captured some beauty in Arizona that I've never seen in all my years being forced to chauffeur my visiting relatives around the mountains. Kudos to you, because this is gorgeous.

From my experience, everyone I've met who has lived here since birth don't see the beauty of Arizona. I think most who are born and raised here take this amazing place for granted. I love the desert, It is so alien like compared to other landscapes. It is unforgiving yet the most beautiful landscape (IMO). There are so many places people will never see because they are not well known. This being one of them. It is so easy to get here, but you can't see this view from the road so many people have no idea scenes like these exist. The Arizona has many colors, not just brown. It is not covered in sand like most people associate the desert with and it is one of the most colorful places I can imagine. I think, some of those who have lived here all their lives seem to see the same places over and over like the grand canyon and such. They are such amazing places that few people really grasp what they are seeing. Whereabouts in Arizona are you located?

Yeah, when I visit my extended family in Wisconsin they tell me the same thing. They don't see their area as beautiful but adore the reds in the rock and exotic plants and sunsets that we get here. But I agree that a lot of its beauty and the diverse colors can get lost on us when we live here because we do see it so often.

I live in the Gilbert area. Over the years I think I've been to a lot of the main-stream mountainous areas, but most of the times was when I was really little so it's entirely possible that I just didn't appreciate the beauty when I went. If you have any recommendations for places to go with my more adult tastes, I'd love to hear some =D

I think when you grow up in a specific place and become so used to it, it does begin to lose it's beauty. That's why I'm always trying to explore new places, so the ones I see often are still new and exciting. Gilbert is a great starting point to explore the superstition wilderness. Between that area and page, I find them to be the most unique and exciting with so many things to see. Arizona has everything you could want in one state, we have it all. Deserts, mountains, forest, tropical areas, tundra etc.

Wow - great sky and good perspective! : )
Was for a week in AZ end of last year and also in the superstitions for an afternoon hike (well, it was dark when I got to the car...).
Didn't have such a great sky, but the landscape is really amazing. I personally was a little more alert after arguing with a rattlesnake over the ight of way, but didn't see any big predators ; )

Thank you! The superstitions are my favorite place around phoenix. I've never encountered a rattler out there, but have seen gila monsters a few times.

I remember riding my dirt bike from Superior to Apache Junction during the summer just to explore the Superstition Mountains. Wish I digital cameras were available back then since all the pictures I took looked like crap when they were developed.
Great shot.

Thank you, I did use a 3 stop and 2 stop grad ND filter to slow the shutter speed, and then blended two exposures for dynamic range.
