There are two primary colors associated with autumn foliage. Yellow and red. It's easy to find both if you look in the right place, but many associate fall foliage with trees. Although the trees steal the show 99% of the time, there are other plants that change brilliant colors as well. Ferns, are probably the easiest to recognize. Contrasting with the bright yellow aspens, the red fern leaves provide a beautiful red color during autumn. What really brought me to this scene was the range of colors throughout the image. There are greens, reds, yellows, oranges, and even blues that all come together here. Match that with the backlit foliage, and you have a VERY colorful combination. I'm always a sucker for sunstars, so I positioned myself in a way that would yield a clean sunstar with little flare just off center. These small intimate autumn scenes are becoming a favorite of mine, and cannot wait for more foliage to turn in the coming weeks.
